Nick's Polaris Challenge Ultralight Tent
Nick's taken the Ultralight Tent Flysheet and tweaked the design to be more mountain-proof - ironically something that's happening in the Mk2 that's previewed here.

Nick Pomfrett built a "backpacking-lite" tent for use during the 2008 Polaris challenge. The overnight campsite was near the YHA's Dolgoch Bunkhouse. The tent performed admirably standing up to one of the rougher nights the event has encountered, with gales and driving rain until the skies cleared and it frozen hard.
I built the poles as well and pegs! Whole lot weighted in at 580gm.
Main pegs were B&Q 15mm "T" section aluminium. Spike on one end, hole the other, 13gm.. Very very strong and wide to give good anchorage. Hole allows guys to be tied off with a simple quick release knot.
I used the tent in conjunction with a bivi bag, which is part of the compulsory equipment.
I adapted the front door with zip down one side and made it oversized to
allow it to be pegged close to the ground when partially open to provide
a sheltered cooking area. Triangle - base 140cm, attached side -100cm,
zip side 130 cm.
To give room to sit up inside I plan to modify the flysheet by adding 25 cm at the tall end.
