Ray Jardine's Site - www.rayjardine.com

Ray Jardine can probably make two substantial claims. Firstly he invented the 'Friend' - a self-loading cam climbing device that now forms an essential part of every climber's kit. Secondly he has acted as a founder of the who backpacking light movement and has been a very public advocate of it.

Ray Jardine's site features information about himself, his philosophy and various products including his set of books such as 'Beyond Backpacking'.

Backpacking Light Magazine (USA) - www.backpackinglight.com

This magazine (online and print) is decimated to the ultralight and the super-ultralight movement. The content is a mixture of subscription and free articles. They tend to cover all the latest gear and do in-depth articles into the whole ultralight movement and kit.

The magazine has a definite US bias but a lot of the articles are relevant to the rest of the world. For instance they have written extensive comparison reports between alcohol and other stoves and the benefits of using a windscreen.

I was so impressed by some of the free articles that I actually subscribed. It was money well spent.

The Outdoors Station - www.theoutdoorsstation.co.uk

Lots of interesting podcasts - from Bob Cartwright (a contributor in TGO) and from suppliers.

Hike-Lite www.hike-lite.co.uk

A good selection of gear at reasonable prices. I bought my first 'real' tarp from this guy.
